  1. Yes, still it would be best that it would be a moderators-exclusive award. There's a greater chance you admins would win over this award 'cause obviously you are the admins -- you have the greatest capability and knowledge on the forums. If we were to make this award exclusive to moderators only, we can have people think about who is the best moderator in the forums, perhaps the one who thinks and acts like an admin. Wait, do people really get real awards when they have the most votes in the Forum Awards? If they would, does that also include the "Most Annoying Member", "Forum Villain", "Rudest / Blunt Member" and "Worst Spelling and grammar" positions?
  2. Blowing up cars IS a part of GTA's game mechanics after all. Another random thing I've done (or been doing): Making the music I play have Chipmunk pitch, or just half-way there. For some reason, I like songs better this way.
  3. Windows 7 a.k.a. Blackcomb a.k.a. Vienna The REAL next-gen OS and the REAL successor of Windows XP and Server 2003 many of us have been waiting for seven f***ing years
  4. Still it is in forum-posting basics (these apply to all forums) that using too many unnecessary periods is considered exaggerating. Having that much periods make many people think you're spamming.
  5. I was sorta referring to their vehicles. It's good but, other than being hell faster and better than any hover-converted car in Hill Valley, there may not be enough slots for it. We're only limited to having a certain number of cars in VC. We can't add more. Though there is still one more slot available in the 2010 cars list.
  6. There are steam locomotives after all. They need wood to produce more steam. Unlike the fuel feature, buying more wood feature is more unique and different than the original fuel feature. And there's still a chance (I think) that the fuel feature returns back. And stop using periods (...) too much. If you don't stop, expect a higher warn level.
  7. Good. So that won't be a problem to me then.
  8. Just got it, too, but I won't be playing it 'till after classes on Wednesday, which is the last day of classes this year. I've still got studying to do for the examinations.
  9. MS isn't really forcing people to buy Vista just because of DirectX 10. 10 was actually intended to be a DirectX9 update until they found out that a DirectX 10 update is too much for Windows XP 'cause it will require many major system alterations. It won't only cost them time and money, but also their efforts of making their OS's more secure and reliable. A DX10 update may rise more OS-related problems in XP such as compatibility and pre-installed programs, especially driver software, no longer working. Plus, hackers may really find out how DX10 work if they make it an update, and if they do, Windows XP will be more vulnerable to viruses, spywares and hacks than it is right now. Windows XP's reputation will be ruined than Vista is right now all because you wanted to play kicka** games like GTA4, and we'll all think more than we do right now that MS's destroying its precious Windows XP to force us to buy Vista. This is one big butterfly effect MS simply avoided by making it Vista-exclusive, convincing game developers to keep their games both DirectX 9 and 10 compatible until MS stop giving support to XP by giving out a more detailed free-for-download DirectX SDK, and create Service Pack 3 to show that they're still concerned with Windows XP and its users. Rewriting DirectX 10 would also be a good idea, but who would want to waste years of development?
  10. @hscipte: Some/Most Malaysians, or probably all of them, don't celebrate Christmas. The worst Christmas present(s) I've got is getting nothing. There was really one Christmas when I didn't receive anything. All I got in that Christmas was nice old food, family who's seem to be enjoying themselves except myself, and a p***ed off mind because of a certain someone. The problem that's been bothering me that Christmas still bothers me up until now, and life's been messy ever since.
  11. I was talking about "wood fuel" not the trains. I've seen the 1885 trains before and we've discussed about it in the previous forums, but I don't remember discussing about having a fuel feature for the trains.
  12. It is possible that Doc made the TT run on wood before since it's hard to make a machine that can generate its own steam without any "fuel" or stuff with 1890's supplies. However, it may also be possible that Doc upgraded the TT in the future eras so there won't be any need for wood and it can generate power on its own (a la Fusion generation) and also make the thing fly. In other words, there is no need for "wood fuel" for the TT. But it would be nice to have it for drivable trains in the future versions.
  13. If we're talking about stuff we get from wrapped boxes or nice people for the sake of good old culture, I had nothing at the moment. All I get for Christmas is regular stuff - t-shirts, cologne, PS2 games that I can buy by myself at the nearest store, etc. It ain't the best gift I had, but there's one cool toy I got from Christmas -- a remote-controlled flying saucer -- but I got careless the next day (December 26) when I overcharged it and its circuits got fried that it became completely useless. The thing's un-fixable and irreplaceable. I felt f***ing stupid for doing so. I also had a computer within the month of December, but I don't think it was a Christmas present 'cause I sort of bought it myself and I've been planning to get it ever since while ensuring that I WILL get it.
  14. 1. Expanding the time travel-able years up to 9999 is implemented by Del because a lot of people demanded it. But if we were to remove years, removing years 5000 and up is fine. There's still a (slight or bigger) chance we can have one or more different future Hill Valley maps between the 21st and 51st century. As far as I can remember, Del was thinking of having MJ Holmes' year 2100 in the mod -- a "cleaner and greener" (eco-friendly) and more beautiful future era of Hill Valley where technology and plants/trees dominate the place. 2. I don't know if this is possible, but it would be a good feature. I do remember seeing a completely custom-built calendar mod in San Andreas (possibly a CLEO mod) that displays a calendar in the HUD whenever you press a specific button. Dunno if it is possible in VC, but I'm certain that there are a lot of limitations. It would be best though if we can have a sort of "portable time circuits" where it would show the Current Time and the Time Departed dates when we press a certain button or buttons. 3. It wasn't really mentioned in the movies how the hover system is powered. It's probably self-charging batteries built into the DeLorean, or something else that doesn't require refueling. But it was indeed mentioned in BTTF3 that the Mr. Fusion "only powers the time circuits and the Flux Capacitor" (Doc mentioned this before mentioning the DeLorean being fueled by regular gasoline which "always has") so you could be wrong. 4. Good point. But we can also get garbage from sources other than homes and businesses like...trash cans perhaps. Note that in the movie Doc mostly got his trash from trash cans and already-used stuff they've bought. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- All of these ideas have good points. But we are clearly running out of coding space. If this was a game and not a mod, no offence but it would be averagely rated and/or 15-35% fail due to the game lacking certain elements to make it a good game. We CAN improve the mod, but we first have to deal with modding limitations. This game would be kicka** for us BTTF fans, but how about interested non-fans? I've already received comments from non-fans calling the mod "boring", "too easy" and "too simple (in terms of gameplay)". I kept on saying this is just a mod and a public beta, but they keep on insisting that the mod be improved more or move to the SA engine to take advantage of the CLEO system. If only VC engine ain't this screwy, then we won't be dealing with these limitations.
  15. True in terms of software, but not always true in terms of hardware. The card is probably incompatible with the motherboard. Even though the graphics card seem to fit perfectly to the PCI slot, it may or may not be incompatible in terms of the hardware present in the motherboard, the compatibility and, most of all, the era or generation that computer/motherboard came from. You've only mentioned the name of the motherboard, not the model, so I can't tell.
  16. It will fail a bit. Like I said above, Windows 7 is Windows Vista. It should have features that MAY make it fail, but not as much as they did in Vista. Other than that, it's good. Just tested the milestone/beta version. Everything went pretty good when I ran it. Windows 7 can run on any computer, unlike Vista, and stuff in the OS works a lot better than do they do in Windows XP and Windows Vista. I just tested a lot of programs with it, which includes the BTTF mod which amazingly didn't crash at all in this Windows 7 when it should crash if I run it in Windows XP or Vista in the same computer.

  18. I'm a modder too so patience for me is also bliss, though this only applies if I'm modding. When it comes to good old playing games, it doesn't or only applies sometimes. When I mod, I always ensure that I have enough time to do stuff, including reinstallations, but as for simply playing games, reinstalling will just keep me from having fun or ruins it before I even experience it. What I'm simply saying is that not all of us are modders who have the experience to be patient at these stuff. Del, the coder of this mod, said it himself. Modding a 15+ GB game is like putting a more serious "install at your own risk" warning in the mod. I'm getting my copy of GTA4 this weekends, if everything goes according to plan that is.
  19. If you're talking about the lightning strike, it's pretty obvious -- how the lightning pass through the cable and through the DeLorean in the movie doesn't look instantaneous. If it was, we would see a flash of light instead of a huge amount of electricity flowing in a fast speed. Speed of light is indeed SEEMINGLY instantaneous, but that doesn't mean most people are dumb enough to think that the speed of light is instantaneous. Instantaneous travel refer to as "teleportation" and simply trying to move from 0-20 MPH speed to the speed of light isn't considered instantaneous travel nor teleportation.
  20. If you tried using W7, you'll regret having a slogan involving a facepalm. An uncle of mine, who got his hands on the Windows 7 milestone/beta/whatever it is, let me use that version of W7 and it's great. No Vista problems. No XP security holes. No need for more updates like XP. No need for compatibility check-ups like Vista. And most of all no strict system requirements. The OS is beautiful -- it can run on nearly ALL computers we've tested that OS on, and it ran great on all of them, with or without Windows Aero theme turned on. Also, there's one thing I'm happy about with that version of W7 -- absolutely no crashes (not a single one) on the BTTF mod. They can't be equal. Windows 5 (or Windows XP) is erroneous in terms of security and Windows 6 (Vista) is erroneous in terms of compatibility and having strict system requirements, while Windows 7 is less erroneous or completely non-erroneous in terms of compatibility, security and performance. Erroneous + Erroneous X 2 = Non-Erroneous?
  21. They didn't. DirectX 10 has different features, architecture, etc. from DirectX 9. If they make DirectX 10 compatible for XP, this will require them to alter most of XP's features by having them share Vista's features. It will like giving out 70% of a copy of Windows Vista for free. Also, a DirectX 10 update would serve as a thing to be included in a Service Pack, so in short Windows Vista would turn out worse than it really did if they found out Windows XP Service Pack 3/4 works almost the same as Vista in terms of gaming/video/audio performance. The free-for-download DirectX 10 hacks in the internet made by programmers for XP people are incomplete. Even though it will add support for DirectX 10 graphics cards and make stuff (a bit) better for those who own such cards, the performance for those who don't have these cards will still be the same.
  22. If you guys really hope that high that Del will move to this game, don't be too hopeful. Like Del said, he doesn't have any intention of modding GTA4. Other than the reason DK mentioned above, another reason why we want to remain in the older GTA games because we want most people to be able to play the mod, in a way that we won't force them to upgrade their PCs to play them, which is one big disadvantage in modding even though the game we're moving to is better in terms of stability and features -- Mods are free, right? Just forcing people to spend much money to play it ruins their description. San Andreas and Vice City run well on a PC with a 90s Intel graphics (Intel 82845G), but can it run GTA4 too?
  23. If you're referring to the Centauri one, it's too futuristic. This thing can travel through space, making it faster and better than the rest. It's like a combined BTTF and Star Wars car. The Lincoln Futura looks like a car from The Jetsons.
  24. It's not only in the PC. The version of Windows you're using also have something to do with the performance. When the system requirements mentioned "Windows Vista" as a recommended requirement, a fellow forum member from another forums tried testing GTA4 on a Vista rig and an XP rig, both having exactly the same specs, hoping to know which is better in running GTA4. Just as many anti-Vista dudes feared: According to his numerously-repeated and very accurate tests, GTA4 ran better (in terms of graphics quality and speed) in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 than in Windows XP Service Pack 3. He believes that DirectX 10 and other of Vista's performance-enhancing features have something to do with the difference in performance. This is also good news to my little bro . For those Vista users out there, don't really expect you'll be able to play GTA4 nicely. Those "performance-enhancing features" of Vista only work in their full potential on PCs with exceptional specs. If your PC doesn't happen to have those exceptional specs, DirectX 10 can only be the one to help you play GTA4 well.
  25. I have some of the most fastest hard drives and external hard drives. I can install GTA4 in less than 10-15 minutes in one of the internal hard drives, or less than 15-20 minutes in one of the external ones. Still I don't like reinstalling a game and mod of such sizes numerous times. Due to getting used to using faster computers, I consider 10 minutes of installation time as slow.
