Filefront shutting down, Nope it is back

I don't know if you already know this or not. But FileFront is being shut down at the end of the month. The forums have already been shut down with the homepage and network sites to follow at the end of this week.

Now, this may just be a early April Fools joke. If it is, I'm not laughing but I thought I'd post this here as I would hate for whoever uses the upload system to lose their stuff.

Re-download all your stuff in your profiles, if any, back to your computer just to be on the safe side.

If the network admins there are screwing with us, they'll have one less member to deal with.

With that in mind, download anything that interests you from the network sites incase this turns out to be true.

Filefront ist schizen! Ppl who use filefront are idiots anyway, Mediafire is where its at!!! Its free, and you don't have to wait for a limited amount of time to be able to download from it!!

Well, We can removed the lnks to Filefront I guess in the Download section. We had the download going thru the site anyway.

FileFront used to be a good site. Back then, I always refer to the site when downloading some useful game stuff, mostly mods and add-on. I was too young to be a member of Fileplanet, MediaFire doesn't have an organized download page and to know the stuff uploaded you need to know either the link of the user's account to view his/her files or the link of the download, and I don't know ModDB yet (not sure if it was ever around in 1999), so at this time FF was a good site to refer to. It is also where I uploaded one of my first mods (which was later stolen by an idiot modder wanna-be and claimed to be his own).

The numerous downtimes it's been having, since around 2005 I think, have ticked me off so I decided to ditch my FF account and move my uploaded files to MediaFire, Fileplanet and the neat "torrent network" our team made. I'm just one of thousand members whom FileFront lost.

So for me, this ain't new.

Not an amazingly big deal, since we have all the files in the download section hosted on the server anyway. But we can always upload them to another mirror like MediaFire. (though this won't be very high on my list of priorities)

I'd agree that 4shared & 2shared are enough good, the only bad thing is that you have to wait 50 seconds for download to start.

FileFront has been acquired by the original founders of the site and will NOT be suspended as previously announced. This is NOT an April Fool's Joke.

After learning about Ziff Davis Media's plan to suspend FileFront at the end of March, the original founders of FileFront made the decision to buy it back from Ziff Davis Media.

We're happy to announce to the gaming community that as of today, April 1st, 2009, FileFront is a completely independent company again and is no longer part of Ziff Davis Media. All previously suspended services should be active and working again. We thank Ziff Davis Media for their cooperation and willingness to keep the site and community alive.

Due to the very unfortunate timing of this event and related announcements on March 24th and April 1st (April Fool's Day), we'd like to make it perfectly clear that:

1) The March 24th announcement about FileFront suspending its operation was NOT an early April Fool's joke.

2) This announcement about the original founders buying back FileFront from Ziff Davis Media is also NOT an April Fool's joke.

3) We're making this announcement on April 1st because the deal was completed today and we want to bring all services back online immediately.

4) We would NEVER suspend FileFront as an April Fool's joke.

5) We are happy to be back!

Strange.I am waiting only 10 seconds

I only wait for less than 5 seconds for download to start, if not instantly. It really depends on the server and your internet connection I guess.

What I like(d) about FileFront is that they don't have that what sites like Fileplanet call "queue" where you have to wait for painstaking minutes for download to start. If you have to wait for 50 seconds for downloads to start in FileFront, what more if you have to wait for 32 minutes to download a simple 5MB game patch and hope that after 32 minutes the site won't say "Server connection failed. Please try again"? It's like falling in line, only worse.
