Minecraft: Buildings, Contraptions, Griefing, Et Al.

Recommended Posts

Mods are being updated rather quickly, plus, I highly doubt that Minecraft will see a complete revamp in 1.1, for example. By that I mean that updating the server as soon as possible isn't important.

Hmmm, I see you guys are only talking about updates and 'little' changes in the game(sheeps eating and regenerating wool with that) but I was thinking, where are the pictures gone? Isn't there anyone on here who build something he or she wants to share with us? Overall this topic doesn't have Buildings in his title for no reason.

So.....

Let the pictures and video's come again.....

EDIT: Well to start off, here is a little island I build with a tent, fireplace, giant mushroom, cacti's, well, wheatfarm, pier, a mob container(thing @ the top) and if you look closely, a part underwater.

I started a map today on 'Hardcore' (first time), but I'm currently finding it no more difficult than 'Hard' :(

Except, Creepers seem to spawn next to you a lot more at night or day, but as long as you are observant you can easily get away.

And you also have to make sure you don't fall down any chasms or off any cliffs.

The 'one life' thing is probably gonna be more difficult to maintain while fighting the ender dragon. :S

"Hardcore" is only harder if you're used to dying all the time with normal hard difficulty. Though I am used to playing hard difficulty and being blasted by creepers all the time, I still have the "falling" problem.

On another note, how about I share my mod ideas with you guys? Here's a list of what I've thought of so far. All vanilla-friendly, and in order from easiest to hardest to make. Comments, suggestions, etc. would be nice. :D

Just don't click that "show" button when you are in a "TL;DR" mood.

SPOILER:
(Better) Golden Apple

- Eating it results to infinite health and always-full hunger bar in a certain amount of time.

- It can also be considered a super dog treat of sorts. Feeding a golden apple to your dog gives it infinite health and stronger attacking power.

Campfire

- It is crafted using 4 log blocks, making it craft-able with a 4-by-4 crafting grid.

- It uses a 1 block-large 3D model that shares textures with log blocks, making it custom texture pack-friendly. No need for the TP artist to make his/her own textures for it.

- It functions like a furnace, with the same interface as the furnace when used. With two exceptions. Durability and fuel.

- Left-clicking would start the fire and the cooking process.

- Campfire has its own one-and-only source of fuel, and the campfire's general durability is determined by its fuel's durability, which is to say that they're sort of one and the same. The fuel slot in the interface would be blocked by an un-removable campfire icon, even after the campfire loses all its fuel, so the fuel can't be replaced. So when burning or cooking, it is best to keep an eye on that fire-looking icon in the interface.

- The remaining duration can also be told by its appearance -- It gets darker as it burns.

- You can ignite the campfire with flint and steel and it will start or continue cooking, but it won't be any different from igniting it by simply left-clicking.

- When burning or cooking, the campfire provides a light level of 14, which is equal to a torch's.

- Left-clicking a burning or cooking campfire block will extinguish it, stopping the cooking process. Useful if you're not cooking any more items at that given time, and you wish to prolong the campfire's "life".

- Mining an unused or extinguished campfire block turns it to pick-able item form. The campfire's duration can then be seen via its duration bar as an inventory item.

- Mining a used-up campfire block would destroy it and have a small chance of dropping charcoal.

- And, oh yeah, though it has fire textures in it, the campfire's "fire" doesn't spread. Absolutely wooden structure-friendly. ;)

Rescue

- A literal take on the idea that you play as a character finding himself stranded on a what seems to be an unknown place, alone, perhaps from a shipwreck.

- Constructing a sort of "distress signal" near a shoreline would have a small chance of spawning what seems to be a ship nearby in the water, provided that the body of water is large enough and is connected to an ocean or sea. This chance is bigger when the distress signal is placed near or within an ocean biome.

- The ship is made up of blocks and occupies a huge amount of empty space above the supposed body of water. You can't mine any of these blocks, but there are however interact-able blocks like doors and chests (with precious items inside).

- You can choose one of two options...

- You can ask one of the people in that ship to help you get out of this cursed lonely place, which brings you to a limited version of Minecraft's ending -- Limited like no epic End poem, just the credits. After the ending, you'll re-spawn back to your current spawn point, with tons of experience and points and the "secret" (unlisted) achievement "Rescued". There would no longer be another ship spawning for you, even if you try making another distress signal.

- In the other option, if you already conquered the awesome land and don't want to leave your precious kingdom now, you can just loot their stuff and leave them be. Or kill the poor crew. Not talking to one of them and leaving the ship for a certain amount of time would de-spawn the entire ship. You can still spawn another ship, but such chance would be slimmer this time.

Overall this topic doesn't have Buildings in his title for no reason.

Blame me for that, though. There was never a "buildings" in the thread's original title.

Well, here's my share. Something I almost forgot to share with you guys. A "full-scale model" of the current version of my "Tree Fort of Solitude" that I built in creative mode (beta 1.8).

Still thinking of ideas to "renovate" it, add more rooms and space, while not making it too big and/or too ugly, but this by far the best working one for me.

Here's the entire album, with screenshots of the interior, roof/treetop and other angles of the tree-house's exterior.

Showing off creations isn't what it used to be, before Creative mode came along it took months to build things using standard collection methods, and weeks with INVedit.

Now with Creative mode you can knock out megalithic strutures in under a day. The challenge has gone.

Although Creative does count for something, now adventure maps can be longer and more intence.

Like this map, which is effing awesome;

Never been a fan of creative mode. Yeah sure I easily built a freaking tree fort (which really ain't my first, and my last one before this was a little more beautiful), but like you've said the challenge is gone. To be honest, it ruined the game for me. Using that world (with my tree fort) needed me to fool myself, forget that I can't destroy blocks with one punch, so I can at least enjoy it, and allow my troubled mind to have space for ideas on how to improve my tree fort. Definitely not gonna play creative mode after all that.

I'm gonna build another one again (back to good old survival mode this time) after a few of my favorite mods get updated to 1.0.0, with a few improvements. Will be posting screenshots once I do. :D

Edit:

In addition to my campfire mod, I'm also planning to make the furnace harder and longer to mine if the campfire mod is installed, to give the campfire more purpose as a sort of portable mini-furnace.

Can't you just carry a furnace?

If you make this mod I would love to try it

As for creative mode, I do not like it either. I think it should be just for mcclassic.

Well like I said, Creative mode is good if you are building Puzzle or Adventure maps. But since it was released back in 1.8 there has been no in-game option to turn creative maps into survival maps.

Instead you had to rely on editing the Level.dat file with NBTedit. Jeb has since added the quick switch between function (B key) in the Test .Jar 11w48a (I think, unless its the one after it) but I think its just a hotkey for debug purposes. Whether it actually makes it into the next full release is unknown.

That would be what the campfire will be for. Campfires are made up of 4 log blocks and burn just as long as 4 log blocks when used as furnace fuel, and are easier to pick up than a furnace (with any tool).

They're very easy to craft replace and can be a good alternative to the furnace, if you do not wish to waste cobblestone resources and time too soon with a new world, or you want things simple when journeying away from home. It's an ultra-portable or "lite" version of the furnace.

Also, this will be my own take on the idea before the upcoming official campfire Jeb will be working on himself perhaps after the official mod API has been implemented, as I am thinking of staying with 1.0.0/.1.

Someone is breaking into houses

I made a fake decoy entrance that said TheCoolest2's valuables, do not enter, and it was a trap that pours lava down on you, I came on just now and lava has been pored, and the pressure plate was broken that activates the lava

Screenshot2011-12-28at111837PM.png

They obviously lived as the fake lever was moved to open the door to escape, as it was an iron door

It would of got them if I had the other lava in place, I forgot to place it

You should have arrow dispencers in the walls too, that fire when they are triggered. A double dose of deserved death XD

No, you wouldn't have gotten anyone. I discovered the circuit from the street's side, went to check out the silly shed. I broke off the pressure plate, checked the chest (1 iron, a few snowballs) and then noticed that lava is soaking through cobbles. So I broke that too. I didn't replace the switch though, I just dug out the dirt block that was holding the door. I didn't enter your property to enter the trap, by the way. The entrance to it is practically on the street.

Now, I don't like you using the word "trap" there, as it was nothing like that. The pressure plate was more than noticeable, not to mention the fact that the whole building was obviously fake, or the fact that the f***ing circuit is visible from the street.

Lastly, you can blame only yourself if someone survives a trap made by you. The circuit for the pistons is actually under a street, so therefore out of your property. I am taking no responsibility over this whatsoever.

PS: I also took the freedom to activate the TNT block that was under your entrance pressure plate. Have a nice day.

Well, I'm not a master at traps, and I do not think it's intersecting the street.(I made it in a rush)

How would you know about the TNT anyway, unless you just dug under it :P

Reminds me of the time someone I knew tried something they call "reverse-griefing" in their server. After becoming a new op, he made a new home, the exterior out of complete stone, which is actually a "silverfish" block, as supposedly a replacement for his former griefed home, (but actually a payback for their griefer friend). And he done it like a real house so that it didn't look like a trap.

The griefer eventually went OL and tried breaking one of those blocks, perhaps planning to do that TNT-sand-pressure-plate trap he loved making. And when they saw a pop-up message saying their friend got killed by silverfish, they knew it worked. :D

Will be using Xie's campfire mod for now, as it fits almost all of the things I would want for my campfire add-on.

Here's my attempt to make a campfire texture for Misa's texture pack, using Misa's stick and fire textures. A bit sloppy I should say, but would do for now.

Minecraft%20-%20Campfire%20for%20Misa

In another note, Clintoxa just posted in the Nature Overhaul thread that he's gonna finally update Mod Options API and Nature Overhaul. Horrah!

He also mentioned about reviving his old Survivalcraft mod, which I think is a really cool mod that improves the enemy mobs' behavior and AI in general and make them deadlier (and more fun). Makes you think twice about underestimating the then-slow and lame zombies this time.

Here's a video if you're not familiar with Survivalcraft. Warning: Not for the faint of heart. And make sure to watch up until the end. ;)
