Mini-Me 24 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) So I had to go to town today and since I already was there I took a look at some possible replacements for my old laptop. But before reading about the most probable candidate, check these shots of my old device: Apart from the static vertical pixel errors, the screen also needs to be supported by smth. so that it doesn't tip over/stays opened. And finally the plug of the power supply is broken and exposes the wires, but with a little turning and bending I get it to work. So late last year I figured it was time for a replacement, and today I finally found a candidate that made it in the recall . Here we have a comparison of both machines (click the names for more info): Specifications Acer Aspire 3820TG-374G50nks Dell Latitude C500 Operating System Windows® 7 Home Premium shipped with Windows® 98 SE (I later on installed WinXP/microXP on it) Processor Intel i3-370M @2.4 GHz (64bit, hyper-threading) Intel Celeron @900 MHz Memory (installed/max) 4 GB/8 GB DDR3 SDRAM (PC3-8500 - 1066 MHz 1) 128 MB/512 MB SDRAM Removable media (cards) Memory Stick (+PRO), SD, xD-Picture Card, MMC CD-ROM Hard disk space 500 GB @5400 rpm (Serial ATA) 10 GB Display/Graphics card 33.8 cm (13.3 inches) @1366 x 768 px/ATI Radeon HD5470 512 MB (14.1 inch) @1024 x 768/ATI Mobility M3 8 MB px Connectors 3x USB 2.0, Ethernet, VGA, HDMI (and probly some more) 1x USB 1.1, VGA, S-Video, Ethernet, Modem, PS/2, Parallel, Microphone in, Speakers out Other connections Bluetooth 3.0, IEEE 802.11n WiFi(no Weefee-Stick required ) Infrared Misc. RG 1 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 lol at "Weefee stick". It's an ok laptop, could be a tiny bit better though. Can't compare with the one you had before though ;D
Mini-Me 24 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 @RG: Sure it could be better, but my main aim was its small size. Last year I was looking into netbooks, specifically the Asus EeePC 1215N. So this is even slightly better than my first idea. Oh and I realized that compared to the price it says on Acer's page (749€) the 599€ I pay in the shop are a fairer price . Actually I already wanted to buy it yesterday but they don't take credit cards. Probably they already got fooled out of they money by forged cards too often... I'd say that it's about TIME you upgraded that dinosaur. Hey, it still does work . And until it finally breaks I will not put it into trash.
«PC» 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 However I can't find what gfx-card was in the new one... ATI Radeon HD5470 512 MB Edit: I took a look at how much it will be to replaces the keys parts you was telling me. Screen = $100 Hinges = $25 Adapter = $10 Grand Total = $
Mini-Me 24 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 Thanks. That's not really worth it .
daangelo29 5 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 Tried Googling your new lappie. Looks good. The perfect rig for me. The one with the Radeon 6370 costs around 42 Philippine pesos, a few thousands cheaper than my current Radeon 5650 Lenovo (I however blame that to the Core i7 processor and the 8 GB RAM). Mini-Me 24 Report post Posted November 3, 2011 Hey, it still does work . And until it finally breaks I will not put it into trash. For a good reason. I could use it yesterday to check whether the PCMCIA WiFi card I bought for it is broken of if it's the PCI-adapter-card I bought to use the card in my desktop PC.
