It was about creating the necessary field to open a wormhole that would cause displacement in time. Flux Capacitor, on the other hand, converts high-energy fuels based on nuclear reactions, such as "plutonium", into electromagnetic energy. When energy is generated, Flux Capacitor uses this EM energy to create a connection between the four dimensions of time (three-dimensional space and one-dimensional time). Flux Capacitor uses this energy to open a wormhole in time when time travel is desired. This wormhole makes time travel possible. However, an important detail here is that the Flux Capacitor must operate at a certain speed (88 mph) in movies and the amount of energy it creates at this speed is critical.
