  1. Random crashes are common. Just free up as much memory and close as many programs as possible before playing the game to avoid these crashes. Also, as much as possible, avoid the following:

    • Time traveling when the camera is in a far distance from the DeLorean, like when in cinematic camera view, especially in flight.
    • Spawning too many DeLoreans
    • Destroying the DeLorean or letting it explode when in flying mode

The ones above are mainly because of the wheel objects.

Speaking of which, why does it ALWAYS crashes everytime we are chased by police?

  2. I wouldn't consider "deleting the folder before uninstalling the game" as being stupid. I consider it as being careless or committing a mistake. I've done something like this a couple of times already (it is because I was either too tired to do all of the steps in order, or p*ssed off and not in the mood, or rushing the re-installation to get it over with), no biggie. This is before I tried making a backup copy of the entire game before modding it, which ditches the need to do a length installation.

  3. GTA SA: BTTF MOD INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR SAN ANDREAS v2.0 USERS

This guide is for those who have problem in installing the mod in the version 2.0 of the game. This guide might also work for those who are using 1.1, not sure. This guide also applies to the installer of other mods, if you get the point of this guide.

    Short Method

    - The simplest and common solution: Just downgrade the game from 2.0 to 1.0 (the moddable version). Here or here is the download page of the downgrader. The downgrader should work in ALL above-1.0 versions. If you've used a downgrader before (and failed to downgrade it), and/or installed the mod before, uninstall and reinstall the entire game before using the downgrader. Only install the mod AFTER successfully downgrading (and testing) the game.

    Long Method

    - If you want to do it the hard (and most effective) way, or if the method above didn't work, use this method.

    - The problem about SA 2.0 is that you can't rebuild the IMG using any of IMG editors, so instead we're going to build our own "substitute" SA 1.0-format rebuildable IMG file for the BTTF models. Do the steps below IN ORDER to do this successfully:

    1. You'll first need Alci's IMG Editor 1.5. Download it here (click the red DOWNLOAD button on the right). You'll also need, of course, the BTTF SA mod installer and IMG Tool 2.0 which will be provided by the mod's installer later.
    2. Completely disable all of your security programs, including User Account Control if you're using Vista or Windows 7, BEFORE doing the steps below. Be sure your PC is clear of viruses before doing this. If you're using Vista/Win7, restart your PC after doing this.
    3. If you've used a downgrader and/or installed the mod before, uninstall/delete San Andreas (and the mod) and reinstall it. DON'T install the mod yet.
    4. Go inside the MODELS folder of your GTA San Andreas directory, and rename gta3.img to "gta3orig.img"
    5. Open Alci's IMG Editor and create a new IMG file (File > New)
    6. Upload/Import any small-sized file you want (an MP3 or a useless text file you have lying around your documents folder) to the IMG so you can build/save it. Just ONE file.
    7. Build/Save it under the filename "gta3.img" inside the MODELS folder.
    8. Start the mod installer and install the mod. Because the custom IMG is in place of the original gta3.img, the installer would install the mod's files there. Once IMG Tool pops-up and you're prompted to rebuild the IMG, rebuild the IMG.
    9. We're not done yet. Keep the custom IMG opened. Open another IMG Tool window (opening IMG Tool twice or more is possible) and open the original gta3.img (gta3orig.img) with it.
    10. With the opened custom IMG as reference, rename all the files inside the original gta3.img that the installer should have replaced with the mod's to a name other than the filename of other files inside the IMG, like "1.dff" or "A.txd". Don't rename all of these files to the same filename.
    11. After renaming them all, just close IMG Tool (both windows) -- since you didn't add or replace files in the IMG, rebuilding the IMG is no longer needed.
    12. Go to the DATA folder inside GTA San Andreas' directory and open GTA.DAT with Notepad.
    13. Just below the line "IMG MODELS\CUTSCENE.IMG" and above the line "SPLASH loadsc2", add the line "IMG MODELS\BTTFMODELS.IMG". Save the file after doing this.
    14. Finally, go back to the MODELS folder then rename the custom IMG (gta3.img) to "bttfmodels.img", and the original IMG (gta3orig.img) back to "gta3.img"
    15. Re-enable your security programs and UAC (Vista/Win7 users: you can keep UAC disabled to reduce the crashes and other problems, provided that you have security programs installed)
    16. PLAY THE GAME AND ENJOY THE MOD

If all of the methods above didn't work, or if you have problems in executing one of the methods, discuss here.

@Admins and mods: Feel free to change or add info in this guide.

  4. So it's the downgrader that has the problem, eh?

Try the downgrade patch here (the patcher should work for ALL versions above 1.0):

    http://grandtheftauto.filefront.com/file/G...der_Patch;74661

Since you've been trying to downgrade the game before, be sure that you get rid of the ENTIRE game (including the folder/directory) and reinstall it first before trying to downgrade it again with the one above. The downgrader you used might have installed or altered something in the game that might screw-up if you try this downgrader, and the mod itself, if installed, would screw-up the downgrading process. Only install the mod again AFTER the downgrade.

If that doesn't work, then I cannot be sure what your problem is. But no worries, there is a workaround in installing the models in your version of SA (2.0) (only ask for this if the downgrader above didn't work).

@CJ: If you're referring to torrent sh*t, you'll waste MORE time on downloading AND installing the 4+ GB game than searching for the -5MB downgrader, if you think about it.

  5. The CLEO add-on itself would have to be partially rebuilt for it to support WAV files. That means there might be a case when some CLEO scripts that were made before that version's release wouldn't work under it.

15 things are known to cause CLEO to become unstable:

    • Low or used-up memory
    • Weak (or weakened) CPU
    • The version of GTA:SA being anywhere higher than 1.0
    • An anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall you've installed is blocking it
    • UAC is blocking it (Vista / Win7 users)
    • You're running too many programs at the same time
    • One or some of your programs are doing a serious activity or task while you're playing like virus scanning
    • You have a program running in background that clears up memory every 5 minutes or something like that for performance optimization/maintenance
    • You're not using the original MAIN.SCM (it's ok, though, if the CLEO scripts are built to work with or for the custom SCM)
    • The MP3 file the script needs to play is currently opened and/or played in a media player
    • The MP3s to be played are not in their right folders or were deleted or are not there at all; the CLEO scripts not being able to find them cause the crashes
    • The MP3s are lengthy and/or have very high quality (lower it as much as possible)
    • The script has the wrong or faulty code to begin with
    • CLEO plays MP3s as many as or more than 7
    • (Applicable if the above is true) MP3s are in separate folders, instead of just one folder

  6. The Conficker virus doesn't break programs to p*ss people off. They steal important info and make duplicates of itself.

So lemme rephrase that -- avoid using Wine programs that involve asking or storing important info. Even if it is Linux, one of the variants of Conficker would be able to grab this info.

  7. If Conficker has to work on Linux and Mac, it has to be completely rebuilt. And it ain't gonna be a Conficker variant anymore, nor Conficker at all, but a completely different virus. Then again, what makes you guys think the Conficker guys won't make a Linux/Mac version of it? The techniques/ways/"principles" Conficker uses to infect computers are after all applicable to all OS's.

    @iPro/iMaster:

The Conficker takes many forms from exes to DLLS, and from seemingly harmless JPEGs/GIFs to document files, AND it is capable of making copies in another partition as far as I can recall.

So when backing up files in the Linux partition, be sure you're backing up the RIGHT ones. Also, at this moment, avoid using Wine (a program that allows you to run Windows programs on Linux), unless you're a careful and smart user.

  8. Start > Control Panel > Type "User Account Control" in the Search bar on the right corner > Click "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off" > If a UAC pop-up appears, click Continue > Uncheck the box "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer" and click OK to disable it > Windows should prompt you to restart the computer so you won't need to select restart it manually

And no, that's not a stupid question :) but try using Search next time, 'cause an a**hole might say it is if you ask another question of the like.

  9. Not all countries are affected by MS's decision of canceling Windows XP's sales. Here in the PH, about 1000+ copies are still sold (the legit ones, not the pirated ones).

Just added more info in my previous post above about Conficker (for Vista/Win7 users).

  10. Did you install SA inside the Program Files folder and you have UAC enabled?

Be sure you run IMG-Tool with administrator privileges (right-click, click "Run as Administrator") before trying to rebuild it. Rebuilding it without admin privileges will have UAC trying to prevent IMG tool from doing so, corrupting the IMG or not being able to rebuild it at all as a result.

Or, to make your situation less complicated, just disable User Account Control, restart, reinstall SA and the mod, then turn UAC back on if you don't want your PC vulnerable to viruses like Conficker for long. (be sure to do all of these in order BEFORE running the game; testing the mod BEFORE turning UAC back on, for example, might cause problems, trust me)

  11. Speaking of Conficker, ALL of the PCs in our university are infected, despite being a science and technology-focused school (either they're not aware of the existence of or knowledgeable about the virus, or the virus is outsmarting them that it goes unnoticed to their PCs, or both). I'm glad I'm knowledgeable enough about how this virus works.

For Windows Vista and Win7 users, they have UAC in their side. Apparently, only those who just clicks "Continue" or "Ok" in the UAC pop-ups without reading the message in them all, or setting UAC anywhere lower than the highest setting (in Win7), or clicks the suspicious "Open folder to view files" on the "Install or Run Program" list than the other one on the "General Options" list of removable disk autoruns, will be vulnerable to viruses like Conficker. I know UAC is f*cking annoying when enabled, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

    Conficker.png

Also them not allowing OS discs to be packaged with your PC you buy anymore.

This is not always the case. There are cases when installation of Windows is optional or Windows being packaged separately so the user can choose whether to install it or not.

  12. Probably been asked/discussed before but would it be possible to go back in time and watch yourself doing whatever it was you where doing as in bttf 2 ,or is that beyond impossible?

    Offtopic dude.

It's impossible to see a past you doing exactly you did before, BUT you can see a past you doing the missions you've done before. I'm not sure if we'll have enough coding space for this, but let's see.

  13. The test I performed involves hacking and programs that are built for my PC's specs and are built specifically for this test, so this ain't just forcing my laptop to lag (if I don't know my own specs, then I won't be able to run this test in the first place; the programs will screw-up or won't do what it's suppose to do).

Let's just get back to topic. At least you get the point of the lag problem.

  14. That's not a very realistic test though is it. No one with any sense would have any additional programs open when running a game.

You don't get the idea, do you? The idea is to run multiple specific (not random) programs all at once that makes use of the CPU, GPU and RAM in a way that so it will be like running a low-end PC. The test went well as expected that even Aero disabled by itself, and my PC's system rating went from 3.8 to 2.1.

And since I got this idea from a professional computer technician (and techno geek due to his eccentric view on computers), I don't think it's an unrealistic test.

  15. And the models, angel? And the item definition? And the handling and...

    More than just cleo :P.

If you only want to get rid of the major code-based features like time travel, time circuits, DeLorean spawning, etc., just get rid of the CLEO. Since the DeLorean won't be found roaming around the streets without the CLEO, then it will be like you've uninstalled the mod. Simple. If you want the Bullet so much, then that's the time you may want to do what you've said. :P

And the back-up thing would be a wise thing to do, to keep users from asking questions about uninstalling BTTF without getting rid of SA and having the need to reinstall the huge game or, in rare and annoying cases, complaining about SA no longer running properly when they try to uninstall the mod alone manually.

  16. GTA4 for the storytelling. GTA:VC's story is epic, but not as great as or greater than GTA4's, and GTA:SA features a coward African-American. All else are just fine.

GTA:SA for the map (the large size and more roam-able space, of course; what's a sandbox game without free-roam and huge roam-able space?).

And GTA:SA for the 3rd. GTA4 has better physics and all, but modding a next-gen game like GTA4 makes me wanna think I'll need a much better PC for it to run any decent mod. This, plus GTA4's need for high-end PC specs and GTA:SA's engine being less of a resource hog and being very simple that we won't need anything very costly to experience the fun of sandbox gaming, makes GTA:SA's engine in many ways better than GTA4's.

  17. That's Cuz i have v2.00 and i have to search the world wide internet for a Nice working crack for Window's Vista.

There is no crack for Vista. This problem of yours CANNOT be solved by downloading a crack at all. Vista is just using up all of the resources that GTA:SA and other games can barely make use of them as much as they need to so they can run decently. This, plus User Account Control blocking some of the stuff SA needs to do in order to run fine, causes lags and crash problems with Vista.

If you have a stable PC that's designed to run Vista (more than) decently, like WileyCoyote's, mine and some others, then this wouldn't be a problem (except for the UAC part; either way, always have the game run with admin privileges).

You have 2 options: 1. Upgrade your PC, or 2. Disable visual themes and desktop composition when running SA and, most especially, run the game with administrator privileges, in the compatibility settings.

  18. 1. I said I forced the game to lag, as in making 10 programs run at the same time and putting all settings to high. It doesn't lag when I...don't force it. And there are computers with decent specs that have some issues in having SA to work for some reason, whereas games like HL2/Crysis/L4D/etc. lag less. But I am yet to know the REAL reason why these people have this problem.

    3. lol ok

  19. 1. I'm using my current laptop, which is 3 weeks old. :P I FORCED the game to lag (opened a lot of programs then played the game at high settings) to test the mod whether it's still worth of playing with lags. Those who have lag issues with SA might find this a big problem.

    2. So you're not changing those? They would look better if they match that of the front wheels imo.

    3. My laptop has 3 GB RAM and 1.3 GB VRAM, so it shouldn't be a memory problem, if that's what you're pointing out here.

    4. Cool, then. May not be a major concern, but it wouldn't hurt to make it more realistic this way. Just have it the same way as you did in the VC version (i.e. dying or starting a mission or finishing one would skip 1 day). I would code this little thing myself, since it's not that difficult, if I only have the time.

    5. I might to do that, OR just ditch the DeLorean and replace it with another whenever the wheels disappear. Still, try having this fixed in the next version.

    6. Good for you. I still have finals and 30+ plates for my drawing class and portfolio for art history class to do before we can have our semester break.

  20. Same engine, but different moddability. I believe it is possible to do that, but unlike in the Crysis mod it will involve an invisible and invincible DeLorean the fire trails would follow for this effect.

But, seriously, I really don't think making the fire trails like this would be a good idea and being movie accurate. We've only seen the fire trails "turning" twice (the Clocktower scene and the backwards 9 fire trails), while the rest are all straight, including the first time travel experiment (where the DeLorean drifted after re-entry, whereas the fire trails went straight instead of going the same direction)

Other than that, what if we try to time travel towards a building or a car in front of us? Would you prefer seeing the trails going in strange directions away from the building/car and the car reacting as though something fast, hard and invisible hit it, or seeing it go straight towards it? Even Bobs' "movie magic" can't help you here. :P

  21. Five things I've noticed while playing:

    1. When it lags while driving AND flying, it's like experiencing lag when flying in VC -- you slow down and can't reach 88 mph.

    2. Can you use the same particles of the trails of the front wheels for the back wheels? (for more movie accuracy)

    firetrails-1.jpg

    3. The wheels of the flying DeLorean aren't unloaded when it's destroyed or unloaded from the game.

    wheels.jpg

    4. The Current Time doesn't change whenever you play missions or save the game -- it is as though when you start or finish a mission, or save the game, you travel back or forward a few minutes through time at will. Also, is it possible to just save the TC data? (CLEO data saving is possible, after all)

    5. If one or two of the wheel objects get unloaded whenever you time travel with the camera from afar, like when in cinematic camera view, the game crashes when you try to convert back. Is there a way to keep the game from deleting the wheels?

  22. There's no way of uninstalling without deleting the rest of the game. Note that during the mod's installation.

If you're referring to this SA mod, you would've just deleted the CLEO scripts or moved them to another folder, so you won't have to do all of that. Simple.
