  1. those coils have an unusual bend in them before the bottom bend, only reason i am favoring bobs prop shop is its close to home so if need be i can come check on progress, i imagine its cheaper , and he seems to use allot of the original parts now as far as the topic with bob and adam went i feel bad for both of them bob is kind of a dick but he wouldnt steal cheap parts it was a very big missunderstanding and adam seems to like the conversion its self it was just a little bit of bad blood i think

I understand what you mean, Leaf. :)

Shipping costs can be crazy, so going with Bob's Prop Shop is understandable. I'm sure it will all turn out okay for you!

  2. Great plans, Leaf!

Personally, I am not a DeLorean owner; however, from friends I personally know and people who work at Temporal FX who I used to know (Joe Walser, Terry Matalas), I would highly recommend Temporal FX and Bruce Coulombe's Coulombe Enterprises.

My friend, who owns a Coulombe car, has not had any reliability issues in terms of wear and tear with parts thus far, being a year after he sent the car to Florida to have the conversion done. If you do send your car to him though, be very picky with some of the features that you add to it, as they can really alter the car's appearance for more or less accuracy, depending on what you're going for; one of the big factors is the removal of the rear window.

Before you read the next part, I would like to point out that I'm a bit of a perfectionist. What I'm going to say will sound a bit picky, but it in no way insults the great work that is put in to DeLorean conversions.

With Coulombe replicas, I'm not a huge fan of LED ambient lighting in the interior and on the exterior. Another thing that makes me cringe a bit are the way they shape the flux coils/bands in the rear. If you want them to look a bit more accurate, make sure you mention that, as their bends are a bit different. The wiring on the sides of the body are also a factor to consider. Coulombe replicas have the wires too close to the rear fender, which isn't a big deal, but it affects accuracy.

Here is a picture of my friend's car. He runs the Steel City Time Machine page on Facebook:

As Mike said, Temporal FX is nothing but quality. Since they are comprised of people who worked on the "A" car, all you can expect is the best. I myself though, could never buy a DeLorean and deface a classic. The only way I would ever get a time machine would be for it to have already been converted by a previous owner. Don't quote me on this, though! :heh:

EDIT: I just read the thread you shared about Bob's Prop Shop, Mike. Literally, I read all of it. WOW!

I am friends with Adam on Facebook, and I never knew any of this. I feel absolutely terrible about what happened to him. This completely changed my view on videobob, which was already a bit tainted due to some of his other actions. Wow.

  3. The do look very nice, but the originals are easily fixable. Also since the new ones are fibreglass, there is zero flex in them, so changing a bulb on the headlights would effectively be a fascia off job. Where as on the original you can push the side/top in enough to get to the screws that hold the headlights in place.

The 'eyebrows' on the original fascia's can be removed by heating the affected area up with a heat gun and strategically placing a block of wood and some clamps. Rinse and repeat until the eyebrow has gone. To stop them warping again, you bond some strips of ally bar to the under side.

Plus I like to keep things original where I can, it maintains the originality of the car :)

I understand what you mean with originality. That's always a plus! :)

It's good to know all of these facts.. Even though I probably won't have the opportunity to put them to use. :P

  4. The car is in many many parts now, I have stripped of pretty much everything I can. All of the interior has been removed sans the steering wheel, and that will be coming off as soon as I get hold of a steering wheel puller, then the entire interior will be going to a specialist to retrim it. Front and rear fascias are off, as is the louvre and engine cover, and have been sent off for painting. The wheels were being refurbished and having fresh tyres installed, but those came back yesterday. Brake calipers are currently being replated and refurbished. I think that's about it for now, still lot's to do, but not much more I can do at the moment until the interior and fascias are done.

I don't have time for games anymore unfortunately, it's one of the reasons I haven't been on here to update progress, I just have not had the time. The little free time I do have is either spent with the mrs, or working on this new car.

Mini-Me has found a way to fix the glitch with the mouse not working on newer versions of windows, I count that as good progress as it was annoying as hell.

Wow, this is fantastic news! Do you have a thread on a DMC forum for this project? I would be very interested in keeping up with your progress. :)

I can also relate to not having the time for gaming. Times have certainly changed.

Regardless, I hope you are doing well overall. Best to you and the Mrs.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, your project almost sounds like Project Vixen, in some ways. Have you considered giving your project a name?

  5. Good to hear from you, Mike!

The restoration project looks great, do keep us posted!

Unfortunately, I don't really frequent this forum too much anymore. I'm mostly on the LCPDFR forum, doing GTA IV related work.

Hopefully version 0.2f is able to come around soon. Any progress is good progress. :heh:

  6. so after deciding to shelve bttf-lc 1.1B for the time being i thought it'd be fun to dissect it and part it out until we start up again

so everybody remember those light boxes on the deloreans that no one liked ever? or in gta in general?

well in bttflc I had removed those and everybody kept emailing me, and bothering me about them in which i would naturally respond wait for 1.1B

    lb.png

well heres a quick and dirty hack to remove the boxes, this file works in both gta 3 and vc and yes its compatible with bttfhv

what it's not compatible with however is Vice city v1.1 and III V1.0

KEEP IN MIND IF YOU RELEASE ANY FILES I GIVE OUT ON ANOTHER WEBSITE THAT ISN'T A DIRECT LINK TO MY WEBSITE I WILL NEVER RELEASE ANOTHER ADD-ON LIKE THIS AGAIN!

    Nice work, Leaf!

I have been using an alternative method, which I believe BTTFModMachine or someone else here taught me.

If you don't want to use a script, you can change the handling.cfg file. There are af and ag values for the front and rear light boxes. Normally, these are set to 0, 1, 2, or 3. To get rid of the boxes, you can change the value to 9.

    Example:

    Original handling:

    BANSHEE 1400.0 2.3 4.5 1.6 0.0 0.0 -0.25 70 1.10 0.84 0.53 5 200.0 33.0 R P 11.1 0.52	0 34.0 1.8 0.18 0.30 0.49 45000 0.25 -0.18 0.5 0.3 8183 0 1

    Light boxes removed:

    BANSHEE 1400.0 2.3 4.5 1.6 0.0 0.0 -0.25 70 1.10 0.84 0.53 5 200.0 33.0 R P 11.1 0.52	0 34.0 1.8 0.18 0.30 0.49 45000 0.25 -0.18 0.5 0.3 8183 9 9

Therefore, if you wish to not have to use a script, you can simply edit the handling.cfg file to achieve the same result!

  7. Which metal base? I didn't think it needed an extra one. I need to enlarge the Telltale Mr. Fusion for the base to be the same size the container, though. :P

Here's a picture from what looks like a progress picture from the restoration of the BTTF 3 Stunt DeLorean.

Note how the Mr. Fusion is sitting on top of a metal "base" or panel. In this shot, it's black with weathering, but it's really silver.

  8. Sounds good, but give it a little more umph in the beginning of the soundbyte, as in the scene where the car pulls out in BTTF 1.

Without this, it just sounds like a fusion device warming up.

EDIT: You did do an outstanding job editing the audio though!

[My last sentence got cut out when I posted this reply... Therefore, I added it back in this edit. :P ]

  9. I think Mike said something about the destination time, as each part of the readout stays the same when refreshed, this will indicate when it will be released, it says 2013, but the time and month are still random

The funny thing is, if it's confirmed for 2013, the Month section should be set to December. There aren't any more months left in this year. :P
